Wehrung’s donates to Plumstead Historical Society

Posted

The Plumstead Historical Society was honored with a donation by the Wehrung family to preserve the bell tower of the society’s headquarters in the former Danboro chapel, built in 1889.

While the PHS volunteers have been restoring the chapel, the weather-worn bell tower was literally out of reach, necessitating the cost of professional painters and lifts.

The Wehrung family has been in the area for five generations and shares the historical society’s efforts to save and promote local history. Their family businesses have expanded into Montgomery and Lehigh counties and they created the Wehrung’s Cares foundation to support local issues with the belief that generosity has the power to unite communities by partnering with local organizations.

The chapel has always been a gathering place for the local community from its original religious founding to the decades of community service by the Danboro Community Association, and now the PHS continues welcoming everyone.

Also donating toward the restoration is the Angeny family, supporting members of the DCA, the former owners of the chapel, for over 60 years.

With a soon-to-be painted bell tower as a symbol, PHS is thrilled to share the history and looks forward to the future together with Wehrungs and the entire community.
