Janet L. Yerger, of Lansdale, formerly of Sellersville, Quakertown and Reading, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023, in Elm Terrace Gardens, Lansdale. She was 78.
Born in Abington, she was the daughter of the late George and Flora Jane (Shelmire) Luddy. A sister, Evelyn, with whom Janet shared an unbreakable bond, later joined the family as they enjoyed a childhood of adventures and frequent visits to extended family in Quakertown.
The family relocated to Sellersville, and Janet attended Pennridge High School, in Perkasie, where she met James Yerger. They later married and became the parents of two children, Melanie and James Jeffrey Yerger.
Over the years, Janet was employed in a variety of occupations, including owning and operating her own business, being involved in chemical sales, and working in a cafeteria. Her strong work ethic made her successful in all of her endeavors.
An unquenchable thirst for learning continued throughout her life, at times complemented with college coursework studies. Later in life, she relished traveling with her longtime companion, the late Harold “Hap” Galer. They traveled extensively and captivated all listeners with their many tales. On the subject of companions, none was dearer to her than Sam, her beloved Corgi.
In 2021, she moved to Elm Terrace Gardens, which offered her new special friends and activities. She played cards, worked in the café, participated in the book club, and gardened.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the nurses at Elm Terrace Gardens, especially Betty and Melody. Their care, guidance, and attentiveness helped Janet navigate some very difficult days.
Janet is survived by her children: Melanie Becker and James Jeffrey Yerger (Deborah); four grandchildren: Timothy Yerger (Renee), Matthew Yerger (Rachel), Julie Becker and Daniel Becker; eight great-grandchildren to whom she was a doting “GiGi”: Seth, Micah, Levi, and Jared Yerger, Maxwell Becker, Madisyn Doucette, Forrest Yerger and Savannah Yerger. She is also survived by her beloved sister, Evelyn Bitner, and her husband Thomas; her dear Aunt Peg; wonderful cousins; and many fabulous friends.
At her request, there will be no formal services, although she did want a Celebration of Life Party. Details will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Janet’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
